History

In 1989, 26 of the 27 pilots of the Port of Gdynia decided to form a company independent of the Port of Gdynia Authority, whose shareholders would be pilots only. This venture, pioneering on a national scale, proved successful and on 1 October 1989 we began operating on our own account from the proverbial zero.

Forced by the unrestrained rise in the cost of transporting pilots to vessels, as early as 1990 we purchased our first pilot boat (PILOT-4). This boat, called “Grandma” by her crew, served us faithfully for eight years despite her advanced age. Today, donated to the scouts, she serves to train young sea wolves at the Maritime Education Centre of the Polish Scouting Association in Gdynia.

Our next pilot boat, PILOT-5, was built in 1991 in Norway, and our latest acquisition — the pilot boat PILOT-3, capable of operating in ice conditions as well — was built in 1998 in Finland.

Our pilots, specialists with the highest maritime qualifications, for whom the profession of pilot is the culmination of a career, continually update their knowledge by attending courses and conferences and through membership of international pilotage organisations (IMPA, EMPA).

We continue to develop the internal organisation of the company, introducing ever better procedures and information systems and improving the organisation of work. In 2001, in order to raise the standard of the pilot services provided as well as the satisfaction of our contractors and partners, we implemented a Quality Management System compliant with the ISO 9001 standard.
